Farmers Fri-Day on Main Street

Farmers Day, the annual celebration hosted by Farmers Bank and Trust Co. of Marion, is drawing big crowds today with summerlike temperatures.

There's all sorts of crafts, old-time handiwork on display, contests and food.

Tomorrow is the annual Pumpkin Festival in downtown Marion.

Public offices closing for holidays

All city, county and state offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. That includes the senior center, Extension service, animal shelter and convenience center. The PVA, clerk, sheriff and circuit clerk offices will be open only a half-day Wednesday, closing at noon. However, the judge-executive’s office will be open all day Wednesday. The public library and federal offices, including the postal service, will be closed only Thanksgiving Day. The Crittenden Press will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving, but the newspaper will be on newsstands as usual next Wednesday.

Bullet on bus investigation is concluded

Crittenden County School District has concluded its investigation regarding how a .22-caliber bullet – found by an elementary student Monday – ended up on a school bus.   After interviewing several students and watching bus video, school officials said it is impossible to determine how or when the bullet was brought onto the bus. "We feel  the action did not involve 'sinister intent' based on the information we gathered from video and student interviews," said Supt. Vince Clark. "The take-away from this incident is that we all have a role to play in providing safety and security for our students and community. Parents and family members need to secure all ammunition and weapons in a secure place in the home, preferably in separate locations. Additionally, all students and staff will continue to be vigilant, as safety and security continue to be our top priority."
